The Ministry of the Interior today (12/1) awarded the "110 Annual Social and Professional Organization Public Welfare Gold Award" to the Red Cross Society, which marks the recognition for its hard work after nearly ten years of turbulence.
The Red Cross Society of the Republic of China, with the support of the International Federation of Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies (IFRC), has established meticulous disaster prevention, preparedness, and disaster relief system, and is a non-profit organization with formal disaster relief and first aid training courses. Over the years, we have pursued humanitarianism, under the supervision of public opinion humbly accepted advice from all walks of life, kept our original intention, worked hard to carry out humanitarian work, and continued to lend a hand to the underprivileged.
In no boast to its achievements, the Red Cross Society still adheres to the belief of "boundless humanity and infinite love" even in the least promising period. It does what it has to do step by step, and cooperates with the government, the private sector, and the International Red Cross system for a long time to fill the gaps of the social safety net. For more than 20 years, "where there is a disaster, there is a Red Cross Society, and where there is a Red Cross Society, there is hope." The Red Cross has worked hard to complete its mission at all stages and provide the most favorable assistance where it is most needed. Since the Wenchuan earthquake, the Morakot typhoon, the Great Eastern Japan earthquake, the 0425 Nepal earthquake, and the Kaohsiung gas explosion, the Ministry of Health and Welfare had assigned accountants to check the financial reports, and are all noted with "Unqualified opinion". The Red Cross Society has been doubted constantly but could always get past the challenge eventually.
With the greatest wish and the most right thing to do, the Red Cross Society does not know how to pander, and always faces the media and the public with the most sincere and simple attitude. Faced with various international humanitarian crises, whether it is displacement and refugees caused by war and conflict, climate change, or natural disasters, from Syria, Nepal, Yemen, the Lake Chad region of Africa, Haiti, Madagascar to Afghanistan, the Red Cross had never been absent.
Sometimes, pandering to the public is easier than sticking to the original intention. Endeavoring ourselves on the humanitarian road is not smooth, but there is no doubt that the Red Cross Society is an important platform for global humanitarian work, an asset of a country.
