A Richter Scale 6.0 earthquake struck eastern Taiwan at 11:50 pm on 6th February. The strongest tremor, which posted an intensity of 7.0, was felt in Hualien City. As a result of the collapse of several buildings in Hualien, Taiwan Red Cross's fourth rescue team, immediately dispatched 27 disaster relief volunteers to work in disaster relief and to support the Temple of temporary shelter 30 bed quilts, Hualien stadium and Chung Hua Elementary school 200 quilts, and there are150 sleeping bags, and as well as 20 large tents for those affected by the earthquake. The rescue team of Taitung branch, more than 45 volunteers of disaster relief team, have arrived in Hualien rescue.
The disaster resulted in the partial collapse total of 4 buildings in downtown Hualien. At the time of the report,2 people have lost their lives and 219 people are injured. While 235 people have been rescued, there are 173 people still missing. Attention gas leaks, bridge closures, and away from dangerous or damaged areas.
In order to rescue those trapped by the earthquake within the critical 72-hour period, the Red Cross Disaster Relief Team worked with the Government Relief Command Center in delivering thermal sensors, optical fibers, sledgehammers and power drills, saws and scissors, among other rescue equipment to disaster-stricken areas. After 9 hours of search, woman had been rescued from Yun Men Tsui Ti Building building at Guosheng 1st Street.
